About Neshawn
Education Background
Neshawn earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of Memphis, focusing on choral music, which laid a solid foundation for her career as a choral director. She later pursued her Master's in Music Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she was fortunate to be mentored by the renowned composer Roland Carter. Beyond her educational achievements, Neshawn is an active member of a Neosoul band, allowing her to showcase her skills as a vocalist. In addition, she offers singing lessons in Chattanooga, TN, conducting engaging music workshops that inspire her students to develop a passion for music.
Teacher
Neshawn serves as the choral director at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, where she leads six vocal ensembles. Her groups consistently earn superior ratings at regional and state festivals, as well as in international competitions. Travels with her ensembles have taken her to remarkable locations such as New York, Orlando, New Orleans, Chicago, and most recently Hamm, Germany. Neshawn offers her students a well-rounded education that covers various musical genres, including Neosoul, alongside real-world performance experiences and singing lessons in Chattanooga, TN. In recognition of her commitment to excellence, she was honored as a Music Teacher of Excellence by the CMA Foundation in both 2020 and 2025, highlighting her impact as a talented choral director.
Performer
A versatile performer, Neshawn is a talented vocalist who excels across various genres, including jazz, blues, classical, gospel, and rhythm & blues. As a frequent soloist in local churches and a skilled choral director, she brings her unique sound to the community. Neshawn has graced the stages of Riverbend, Nightfall, and the Levitt Amp Series, along with many other local festivities. In 2012, she traveled to Hamm, Germany, where she performed a concert of jazz and blues to a sold-out audience. Additionally, Neshawn has collaborated with the Chattanooga Symphony on multiple occasions. Choral Director
As a dedicated choral director, Neshawn conducts six vocal ensembles that consistently achieve superior ratings at local, regional, and state festivals, as well as at international venues. Her extensive experience includes leading major works alongside both chorus and orchestra. For over a decade, Neshawn served as the assistant director for the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African American Songs, where she cultivated her skills in guiding vocalists. Furthermore, she has taken on the role of music director for several productions at the Chattanooga Theater Center, enriching her expertise. Neshawn also actively participates in music workshops, offering singing lessons in Chattanooga, TN, and has collaborated with a Neosoul band, demonstrating her versatility in the music scene.

Chattanooga Black History Chorale
This group, under the guidance of our choral director, will be traveling with me to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall. All donations will support registration and travel costs for this exciting music workshop, where our neosoul band will truly shine.
